Annie Pearl Patton was born on June 29, 1938, in Davidson County, Tennessee, to the late(s) Minister Andrew L. Carney, Sr. and Reathie Carney. She peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Annie Pearl was a graduate of Davidson County School System and Tennessee Agricultural & Industrial State University (TSU), earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. A lifelong advocate for education and literacy, she dedicated more than twenty years of service to the Nashville Public Library before retiring. Annie Pearl's life was a testament to faith as an active member of the Old Hickory Blvd. Church of Christ. Her gentle spirit, quiet wisdom, and enduring legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Patton, her son, Joseph Leon Carney, and her brother, Thomas A. Carney. To cherish her memory, she leaves her daughter; Claudia (John Brent), her grandchildren; Shalonda (Christopher), Jason (Gwendolyn), Jennifer (Micah), and Jonathan, siblings; Andrew, Jr. (Annie Jean), Carl, Sr. (Monice), David, Sr. (Prescillia), Mildred Joyce, and Ronald, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
