Barbara Annette Carter, born to A.L. Taylor and Florence Ikerd Taylor in Nashville, Tennessee on November 6, 1939, passed away on January 15, 2026.
As the beloved oldest sister of 10 siblings, she was educated in Nashville public schools and was a great nurturer. This talent came through in family rearing and her gardening hobby. To those who knew her, she was an excellent cook and a witty conversationalist.
She was preceded in death by husband Robert Lewis Carter, brothers, Sonny Taylor, Kenneth Taylor, James Taylor, Leroy Taylor and Harold Taylor, son Dalton Grant, and grandson, Dalton Grant, Jr.
Her surviving children include daughters Gina Grant, Tracy R. Carter and Tanya S. Carter, and her devoted granddaughter, Jasmine Hendricks. Other surviving grandchildren include Monyanita Hockett Henry, Amanda Anderson, Christopher Grant, Katherine Ani, Kendall Ani, Roman Thompson, Daviel Grant, Erica Ezeifedi, Jose Vasquez, and Ivanna Mora. Among her great-grandchildren are Kristen Carter, Michael Carter, Michaela Clark, Quinton Henry, Kyndle Henry, LeBrandon Anderson, Zelaya Grant, Prynce Daviel Grant, and Pryncess Amari Grant. She has five great-great grandchildren. Her siblings Dorris Williams, Cecelia Dell, Wayne Taylor, Patricia Gunn, and Wendell Taylor, as well as the rest of her big family, will miss her indomitable and generous spirit.
