Bobbie Ellis transitioned into rest on Thursday afternoon, September 7th, peacefully in her home. She was born Bobbie Jean Dunlap on June 1st, 1938 in Moscow Tennessee to parents of the late Eli Dunlap and Mollie (Payne) Dunlap. She professed her life to Christ at a very young age as a Baptist Christian, and later devoted her life to Jehovah, confirmed by Baptism. She and her husband, Eddie Ellis Jr., would happily travel by foot door to door spreading the good news. As a matter of fact, everywhere she went, the good news was delivered: Walmart, Sam’s, CVS, The Farmer’s Market, you name it! You want it told, she’ll tell it! She received her graduate education in Moscow. But her career calling made her leave home to become a Cosmetologist. She was never shy to tell that her sister Mollie Pearl taught her how to do hair at home for all of her sisters. It was the care and love of making her family females pretty that made her want to be a professional in that industry. After graduating from Joyce Beauty School in 1959, she later moved to Chicago, she would say: “The BIG CITY HONEY”. Growing her craft and business there……… and then finding that tall dark man with white teeth (Eddie), that became her forever husband (TWICE in Life) after about 6 weeks, on December 5th of 1966 they married. They returned to Nashville both as Licensed Cosmetologists. Bringing back with them The ELLIS HOUSE of BEAUTY to North Nashville! Eddie’s main profession was in Concrete Mason Construction, so he finally did build her a Salon that remained on Jefferson Street. Very noticeable by the rock work that is the same rock he built for their home. Before devoting her life to Jehovah, she loved contributing her time helping children through the Elks Lodge, as their Pride of Tennessee. Also traveling abroad with many of her nieces and nephews as much as she could. And then after attending the Kingdom Hall at Fisk Park, she got baptized and devoted herself to Jehovah as a Witness. She and Eddie attended the Kingdom Hall together for many years.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her son Melvin Lee “Jerry” Woodard and her husband Eddie Ellis Jr.
She leaves her memory to be cherished by many, since she was the last living child of Eli and Mollie Dunlap.
Devoted son, Eric D. Jackson. Sister-n-Laws: Bunny (Ellis) Powell and Larietta “Larry” Ellis. And a host of many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great great- nieces, great great- nephews, family friends, salon friends, medical friends, as well as Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall Friends.
