Bernyce Ethel Brooks-Trabue

June 26, 1943 — October 10, 2024

Bernyce Ethel Brooks Trabue was born June 26, 1943, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to the late Garland Harris Brooks, Sr. and Sara Jeanette Melton Brooks. After 81 years, God called her to her final resting place.

Bernyce accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Freeman Chapel CME Church. She was a devoted member and served on the Stewardess Board.

Bernyce graduated from the University of Kentucky Hopkinsville Community College and received her associate’s degree in applied science. She was a member of Alpha Beta Gamma and Phi Theta Kappa. Bernyce was a Kentucky Colonel, appointed by the late Governor John Y. Brown and was also a Charter Member of the Modernette’s in Hopkinsville, Ky. She retired from TVA in 1988 and after 13 years of devoted and loyal service, retired from Brazeway, Inc. in 2004.

“Baby Sister” as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was married to the late Robert C. Trabue, Sr. To this union, three children were born: Robert C. Trabue, Jr., Jeanette P. Latimer, and Juliette Y. Thomas. Bernyce was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. The remembrance of her pleasant smiles, strong hugs and warm kisses will forever be engraved in our hearts.

She leaves to cherish in her loving memory, one son, Robert C. Trabue, Jr., DeSoto, TX; two daughters, Jeanette P. Latimer (Randy), Atlanta, GA, Juliette Y. Thomas (Chris), Murfreesboro, TN; two brothers Wayne Brooks, Nashville, TN, Melton Brooks, Hopkinsville, KY; seven grandchildren: Jada, DaReis, Winston, Kendall, Kelsey, Sara, and Evan; one great grandson: Carlos; one aunt; Shirley Brooks, Hopkinsville, KY, several nieces; Mariah, Linda, Donna, Gloria, Paula, and Angie. Three nephews, Michael II, Garland Samuel and Curtis. Bernyce leaves behind great nieces and nephews as well as devoted friends who were her ”special sisters”; Doris Sims, Joanna Mack, Kathy Redd, Patsy Morgan, Pat Bailey, Sheila McKnight and a host of devoted cousins, relatives, and friends, especially her “Monday night prayer group” with Freeman Chapel Sisters in Christ; Joyce Reed, Patricia Rogers, and Shirley Mack. Bernyce was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Sara Brooks, her brother Garland Brooks, Jr. (Mary), her brother Michael Brooks (Vicki) and loving Sister-In-Law Benita Brooks (Wayne).
