Betty Jean Braden "Hat" Correthers, the 9th of 12 children born to the late Elza and Alberta Braden, was born on June 9, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee. She peacefully transitioned from this life on April 26th 2025. Betty was educated in the Davidson County Public School system, where her love for learning and passion for the arts began. From a young age, she had a deep love for music. She lent her beautiful voice to many choirs and singing groups, a gift that would carry her across the country and even abroad, touching lives with the joy of song.
In addition to her musical talents, Betty was a woman of many gifts. She had a creative spirit expressed through her sewing, drawing, and gardening. And, of course, she was known and loved for her signature hats, which she wore with grace and flair
At a young age, she was united in holy matrimony to Bill Stockard. From this union, she was blessed with three stepchildren—June Stockard-Hill, Jerry Stockard, and Billie Stockard, whom she helped raise with love and care.
Later, Betty relocated to Warren, Ohio, where she deepened her faith and was baptized in Jesus' name by the late Bishop Warren Wagner. During her time in Ohio, she met and married Willie Correthers, who preceded her in death.
Returning to her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, Betty pursued a career in healthcare. She completed her nursing technician training at Baptist Hospital and worked in the medical field until her retirement.
She became a devoted member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on the Mother Board. Later, she transferred her membership to Greater Christ Temple Church, where she remained a committed member until her illness.
For over 40 years, Betty shared her life with her devoted partner, Henry Sylvester "Mike" Dotson, who also recently preceded her in death. Their relationship was a true testament to lasting companionship and deep friendship.
Betty's beautiful life—marked by faith, creativity, love, and quiet strength—will never be forgotten.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her sisters, Mattie McCutcheon and Sadie Braden; her brothers, Robert Braden and Tommy Braden; her beloved stepchildren; a goddaughter; cousins; and many devoted nieces, nephews, and friends.
