Brenda McGilmer was born April 20, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan to the union of Benjamin McGilmer and Clara Mae Alcorn McGilmer. She departed this sweet life surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at her residence in Nashville, Tennessee.
Brenda accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was united with the Church of Our Prayer. After relocating to Nashville she united with St. John AME Church and later Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
She was educated in the Detroit Public and Private Schools. Brenda wanted to play an active role in the caregiving of her mother, so she continued her education and enrolled in Community College to become a Dialysis Technician.
Brenda was employed as a Dialysis Technician and Certified Nurses Technician in Detroit for many years. She was also HR Manager for Medical Staffing Network for 5 plus years, in addition to Meharry and Vanderbilt in Dietary for 5 plus years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, latch hook crocheting, penny Press Puzzle books, reading her Bible and early morning Kroger runs. “If you know, you know”, and planting flowers.
She leaves to share her memories, one brother, Weldon McGilmer, five children, Stacey (Eric), William, Anthony, Crystal and Te’igo, one adopted daughter, Renata Reid of Florida, one goddaughter, Melissa Sanders (Freddy), grandchildren, Christopher (Alicia), T’Ahnah, Bre’Ahnah, Le’Eric, Tayle'Ahnah, Ka’pion and Jhaedyn to name a few, two great grandchildren, D’Anna and Elijah’ Juan McGilmer, nieces and nephews, Christopher, Calvin (Lee Lee), Thomas, Zaria and Jamie, one close cousin, Tina and a host of other nieces, nephews, grandchildren and numerous friends, bonus daughter, Patina Hogan “Patina Suga”.
