Bro. Amanzo Jones

January 14, 1951 — June 9, 2022

Amanzo Jones was born January 14, 1951 in Merigold, Mississippi. He was the 4th of 15 children born to the late Bennie Lee and Fannie Mae Jones. He departed this life on Thursday, June 9th at his home.

Amanzo was educated in the Bolivar County School System. He was able to receive guidance from Brother Marshall Keeble during his year at NCI. When the school closed, Amanzo returned home to Mississippi and completed his high school education. He also attended David Lipscomb and Delta State University.

Amanzo accepted the Lord at the age of 14 and by 15 was already beginning to preach the word of God. His ministry included Shepard St. Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant, TX, West Eastland Church of Christ (Gallatin, TN), and Hart Street Church of Christ where he labored for 25 years, until he retired in December 2021, due to failing health.

Amanzo was well known for his love of preaching and has spread the word of God from coast to coast as he conducted Gospel Meetings. He has always kept God first in his life and been a mentor to young ministers.

During his tenure at Hart Street, many were baptized, and they continue their faithfulness unto this day. He officiated over many weddings, presided over workshops, and was the eulogist for members, families, and friends. His extensive vocabulary, sense of humor and the clarity of his speech is a tremendous loss.

Amanzo’s love of poetry, plays, and recitations is exhibited in his solo performances and with his siblings in “God’s Trombone”. Amanzo wrote at least three plays performed at youth seminars and numerous poems.

He worked as a counselor in the Mississippi Correction System. For many years, he was also a customer services representative with Gospel Advocate.

In addition to his parents, Amanzo was preceded in death by his brother Abraham and infant sister Gloria.

He leaves to morn his passing a devoted wife of almost 44 years, Sharon, a caring daughter Tameka (Moland), a precious grandson Micah; Siblings, Bennie (Anna) Jones, Willie Jones,  Charlene (Joel) Byrd, Evelyn (Lester) Busby, Alex Jones, Loretta (Steve) Gunn, Douglas (Brenda) Jones, Mary Jones, Charles Jones, Larry (Carrie) Jones, Linda (Curtis) Washington, and Lillian Jones; Sisters-in-law Margaret Jones, Effie (Michael) Booth and Karen (Kenneth) Scott. A host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
