Cathy Sue Towles

November 8, 1963 — February 19, 2024

Cathy Sue Herron Towles was born on November 8, 1963, in Whiteville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Mattie Sue (Spencer) Herron, her son, Stephen Andrew Towles and her grandparents, Robert and Sadie Herron, Sessie Spencer, Sr. and Rosie (Joy) Spencer, and Frances Spencer. She was the sixth of seven children. On February 19, 2024, Cathy Sue made her transition to immortality in heaven with her loving family surrounding and worshipping around her.

She fell in love with Jesus as a young teenager, gaining a heart to inspirationally win souls to the Lord. After graduation from Bolivar Central High in 1981, she started her educational journey at Lane College and later transitioned to Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.

In 1986, she met Barry Glenn Towles at Born Again Church at an all-night prayer meeting. While praying for Barry during this meeting, she laid her hands on his head and prayed “Lord, give him the desires of his heart.” His heart leapt up and said, “You are the desire!” They were united in holy matrimony on June 25, 1988. They shared their first kiss on their wedding day. Barry and Cathy were so in love with each other throughout their journey of marriage that they decided to remarry again after 30 years in June of 2018.

Cathy was known to be a virtuous woman of wisdom, nobility, excellence, and grace. Her laugh lit up a room with her wit and humor. She loved to dance to praise music and have a good time, and we know that she’s now dancing in heaven. She was a visionary full of faith, courage, and perseverance. A true worshipper, she possessed a strong sense of discernment. Carrying herself in elegance, she was a great influencer, mentor, motivator, and encourager who inspired many to reach their goals and dreams. Many called her a “social butterfly” with and innate ability for making everyone feel welcomed withing any space. There were no big ‘I’s or little ‘U’s in her perspective of people, as she valued everyone. Furthermore, she had a unique grace that brought couples together, helping some to get married.

Cathy was an exquisite interior decorator and designer who brought a “wow” factor to everything she touched, with some calling it the “Cathy Sue Production” effect. As a professional organizer, she started a business called “B & C Transformations, “transforming homes, businesses and most importantly lives." She had an eye for detail and for finding diamonds in the rough. She could walk into a room full of collectibles and find the most valuable pieces at a glance. Going to estate sales was one of her hobbies and she believed that a virtuous woman needed money “to consider a field and buy it” (Proverbs 31:16).

To cherish and celebrate her memories and legacy, she leaves her loving and supporting family, including, her loving husband, Barry Glenn Towles, four children: Dr. Ku (Lanakila) McMahan of Washington D.C., Gabriel (future daughter-in-love, Morgan) Towles of Brooklyn, NY, Ashtan Towles of Manhattan, NY, and Aerial Towles of Nashville, TN; six siblings: James Herron of Rosharon of TX, Barbara Herron of Smyrna, TN, Tyrone Herron of Whiteville, TN, Jeanette Herron of Nashville, TN, Augustine (John) King of Hendersonville, TN, and Amy (Clement) Ogbomo of Ruckersville, VA; aunts: Marie (Lawrence) Algee and Barbara Perry of St. Louis, MO, Katherine Spencer and Cheryl Spencer of Milwaukee, WI, Morlean Polk, Arie Lee (Jimmie) Sain of Whiteville, TN; uncles: Gabe (Lorrene) Spencer and Hulon Spencer of Dover, DE, Sessie (Joann) Spencer, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, Rayford (Minnie) Spencer of Bolivar, TN, and Harold Spencer of Whiteville, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lavearn Towles of Somerville, TN, R.V.
