Daniel will be remembered for his sense of humor, welcoming spirit, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Daniel Ray Wilson Small, affectionately known as "Danny" and, in his younger years, "Lovey," passed away on August 22, 2026, at the age of 54. He was born on October 11, 1971, in Ottawa, Kansas, where he spent his early years before making his home in Albany, Georgia.

Daniel was born to May Lois Small and the late Ronald Leroy Small. He grew up alongside his four siblings, Ronald C. Small, Derrick C. Small, Rhonda L. Robinson, and Alneata L. Small-Barrett. He attended Ottawa High School, where he proudly played football and developed a lifelong love for sports. During his youth, he was also an active member of Bethany Chapel Baptist Church in Ottawa, Kansas, where he sang in the church choir. Later in life, he became a member of Greater Second Mount Olive Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia.

Daniel will be remembered for his sense of humor, welcoming spirit, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He found joy in everyday moments and brought laughter to those around him. His kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. One of the ways he expressed his creativity was in the kitchen, where he had a remarkable ability to take whatever ingredients were available and create something special. Beyond cooking, he had a deep love for sports and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan who proudly supported his team through every season, often sharing spirited opinions, friendly banter, and plenty of laughs along the way.

During some of the most difficult periods of his life, Daniel drew strength from a scripture his mother often shared with him: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). More than a verse, it was a reminder to keep his faith, trust God's plan, and persevere through whatever came his way.

Above all else, Daniel treasured his family. He was the father of Sharquese Brobst, Desirae S. Small, Aysia-Rae D. Small, and Isaac D. L. Small, and a proud grandfather to Alivia R. L. Cook-Hinson, Analissia Brobst, and Angelique Brobst. His love for his family was evident in the pride he took in their accomplishments and the joy he found in their presence.

Daniel leaves behind his beloved mother; his children; his beautiful granddaughters; his siblings; and countless family members and friends who will forever cherish the love, laughter, and memories they shared with him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Leroy Small, and his brother, Derrick C. Small.

Though Daniel's journey on this earth has come to a close, those who knew and loved him will carry his memory with them always. And in honor of his unwavering loyalty to his beloved Dallas Cowboys, it seems only fitting to leave with the words that would surely bring a smile to his face: "How 'bout them Cowboys?"

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Daniel during the final months of his life.
