Mrs. Dessie D. Knott was born February 20, 1942, in Athens, Alabama, to the union of Mack Horton and Ida Humphrey Horton. She departed this peaceful life on Friday, August 1, 2025.
Dessie was educated in the Alabama Schools. She met and married the love of her life John B. Knott in 1979. This love lasted for almost 40 years. John was called home to be with the Lord on October 16, 2018.
Dessie accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was united with Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church. She later united with Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church where she served as a faithful usher.
Dessie was employed by Baptist Hospital which is now St. Thomas Midtown for over 25 years in the housekeeping department and later as a patient Transport. She was blessed to retire.
Dessie had a passion for cooking and was always happiest in the kitchen, preparing meals for loved ones. She also enjoyed the excitement of visiting Casinos and the fun that came with every trip. She loved spending time with family and friends sharing laughter, stories and making memories.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Horton, and grandson, Roy Lavelle Horton.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are her granddaughter, Lakeshia Horton, grandson, Bobby “Packy” Horton, great-grandchildren, Taneshia Horton, Te’Aundra Horton, Caleb McDonald, Alexis Horton, Layanna Horton, Lavelle “Man Man” Horton, Lamont Horton, sister, Annie Reed, brother, Mack Jr (Gena) Horton, a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
