Dorothy Geraldine Shelton was born February 9, 1933, in Nashville, Tennessee to the union of Robert Hicks and Canova Watson Hicks. This beautiful soul was called home from her earthly labor to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dorothy was educated in Metro Nashville Public Schools attending Pearl High School. She accepted Christ in her life at a very young age and was a longtime faithful member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board, exemplifying her unwavering dedication to her community and her Lord.
Dorothy married the love of her life Thomas Shelton at a very young age. Six children were born into this union. Her previous relationship with Dan Hall produced her eldest daughter, Cyrilla Jones.
Dorothy was employed as a housekeeper, a role she cherished throughout her life. She was deeply committed to her faith and family. Dorothy took pride in caring for her children, family was top priority for her. Dorothy’s children had 5 other siblings that she loved and accepted.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Canova Hicks, brother, Robert Hicks, Jr., and children, Patricia Ann Wallace, Cyrilla Jones, Ronald and Sammy Shelton.
Those left to celebrate her life and cherish her memories are her children, Donnie (Rosalyn), Thomas, Jr., and Wanda, her beloved 17 grandchildren whom she was very proud of, she had numerous great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy extends to countless family and friends who were touched by her kindness and sweet spirit. Dorothy will be remembered for her devoted friendship with Janice Anter, who stood by her side through many seasons of live.
When the Lord called her home, she was still very independent, living her best life and serving God. She will be missed and loved forever.
