Ester Davis Grigsby

June 18, 1927 — March 5, 2024

Ester D. Neblett Grigsby, the daughter of Leemon N. Neblett and John Etter Moore Neblett was born June 18, 1927 in Orlinda, Tn.   She was the youngest of nine children. At an early age she professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Orlinda, Tennessee. She was educated in the Robertson County School System.

Mother Grigsby was united in holy matrimony to John H. Crocker and to this union three children were born.  They enjoyed a life of love and happiness for thirty-three years until his passing. Sometime later, she found love again, she married the late Deacon Joseph T. Grigsby and moved her membership to Foster Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother’s Board and other services and capacities.

Mother Grigsby decided to move her membership to Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her illness.  She enjoyed her fellowship with the members of Fairfield and quickly became “Momma” to everyone.  She was employed as a caretaker for many years and later worked for the Nashville School System, while working hard she received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate from St. Thomas Hospital where she was a faithful employee until her retirement.

Mother Grigsby was a baker and was famous for her “caramel cake” and chess pie.  She was also a seamstress and loved to sing and formed a trio with her daughters.   One of the highlights of her life was singing the National Anthem for one of the Sounds baseball games. She loved traveling, fishing, and was a great swimmer.

Mother Grigsby departed this life on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the age of ninety-six years old.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, one son, Marvin H. Crocker, grandson, “DJ” Bryant D. Harlan; two great grandchildren, MacKinsley White and Kayla Dashaun Coleman.
