Fred Allen Hill

Nashville

Fred Allen Hill was born in Lewisburg, Tennessee, on April 14, 1936, to Claudine Reynolds and Harvey Hill. He spent most of his childhood years in Marshall County. After moving to Evansville, Indiana for three years, he returned to Lewisburg, Tennessee, and graduated from Jones High School as the Salutatorian. 

Fred was a US Army veteran and spent three years at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, and Fort Gordon, Georgia. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he enrolled at Tennessee State University in 1960. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from this great university. He also completed several hours at the University of Tennessee- Nashville and Tennessee Technology University in Cookeville, Tennessee earning him a Master Plus 45. 

Fred began his teaching career in 1962 teaching Social Studies at Jones High School and Marshall County High School in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Later, after moving to Nashville he taught at Washington Junior High School, Apollo Middle School, and Antioch High School and taught evening classes at Cohn Adult Learning Center for 15 years while at Antioch High School. He retired from the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System where he served 38 years out of 43 years of teaching. 

Fred was a faithful member of St. Luke CME Church where he served as a member of the Steward Board, Usher Board, and as a member of several other church organizations. If you attended St. Luke CME church, you would probably find him at the front door on the right side serving as the Pastor’s Usher. He loved teaching the Men’s and Church Sunday school classes. He would spend hours preparing lessons for everyone to enjoy. Fred loved and honored his church. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Carolyn M.A. Bishop Hill. Fred has one son David Allen Hill who is married to Shana T. Raybon Hill. They have one daughter Christiana A. Hill. He also has two brothers Joe (Janet) Hill and Billy (Ida) Hill, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, In-Laws, and friends.
