Mr. Herbert Byars, Jr. was born May 6, 1936, in Whitlock, Tennessee to the union of Herbert and Willie Ray Byars, Sr. This productive life came to an end on Monday, March 23, 2026, at his residence in Antioch, Tennessee.
Herbert was educated in the Henry County School system of Tennessee and was a graduate of Tennessee A&I University in Nashville, where he majored in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. He began his career working for the McKissack & McKissack architecture firm. He later served with the Federal Government’s United States Forest Service in several locations across the country for 31 years.
Herbert served his country and received and honorable discharge from the United States Air Force.
He was a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Omega Chapter.
Herbert was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Byars, Sr. and mother Willie B. Byars, wife, Christine Delores Byars and sisters, Joy Lee Riggs, Geneva Hutcherson and Carrie Kennedy.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his loving sons, Scott Allen Byars, Sr., and Kenneth Byars, grandchildren, Alyssa Nicole Byars, Nichelle Elan Byars, Scott Allan Byars, Jr., Roman Elissa Byars, Camille Delores Byars, Sophie Aniece Zomora, great-grandchildren, Cameron Dru Dowell, Caylen DeMAR Dowell and Edna Noble Zamora, siblings, L. Royal Byars, Nashville, and sister, Waseema Craig, Southfield, Michigan as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
