Isaac "Ike" Rivers, Jr.

Isaac Rivers, Jr., affectionately known as “Uncle Ike” passed away peacefully in his home Monday, July 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Isaac was born March 18, 1945, in Nashville, TN, where he was raised by his devoted father, whose love and guidance formed the beginning foundation of his life. He was also lovingly cared for by his father’s longtime companion, Cora Belle Hayes who played an important role in his upbringing.

Isaac was equally blessed by the enduring friendship of his father’s lifelong friends, Lorenza and Pauline Jennings, whose presence and support became an extension of his family.

Throughout his childhood and beyond, he was surrounded by a family of love and support. His Uncle Charlie and Aunt Emma Belle Harris were a constant source of encouragement and care. His life was enriched in countless ways.

Although he never had the opportunity to know his biological mother, his life was enriched by the many people who chose to love, guide and stand beside him. Their influences helped shape the man he became.

Isaac professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Frazier A.M.E Church in Athens, AL. He united with Glenn Tabernacle United Primitive Baptist Church in 1998 under the pastorate of Elder Eugene McKissack. Because of the faithfulness in his heart and spirit, he was ordained as a Deacon where he served faithfully until his health began to fail. He served with Love, Faithfulness, and Total Dedication to the Lord and Glenn Tabernacle.

Isaac received his education in the public school system in Athens, Alabama. He graduated from Trinity High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army and later joined the National Guard where he was promoted to Sergent. He retired from the National Guard on August 1, 1995.

Isaac received the handle of “Riverboat” while in the Army and National Guard, where he served for a total of 27 years. The name “Riverboat” followed him to Rodeway Express Truck Lines, where he was employed for 31 years. He was a dedicated and hard-working truck driver who remained safe throughout the years. He served as Union Representative for Teamsters Local 480.

Isaac loved riding his Honda Gold Wing and Harley Davidson with the Pink Panther Motorcycle Group where he served as Treasurer.

Isaac was first married to the late Emma Rivers. In this life together they built a loving family raising three daughters; LaTonja, Angela, and Iris. Fatherhood was one of his greatest joys, and he loved each of his daughters wholeheartedly.

Years later, Isaac married the love of his life Lavonia Holt. Although they had no children together, he proudly embraced her daughter, Tonia, as his own. To him, she was never a stepdaughter; she was simply his daughter, loved beyond measure.

To Isaac, family meant everything. He was a devoted father whose love was defined not by biology, but by the relationships he nurtured. He cherished each of his daughters equally and never distinguished between those born into his family and those who became part of it through love. Through love – not blood; they were all simply his daughters.

Those who knew him understood that love – not blood defined his family. Whether as a son, husband, father, grandfather, caregiver, uncle, cousin or friend, he gave of himself generously and selflessly. His legacy is one of Compassion, Loyalty, and a Steadfast Commitment to the people he loved. He believed that family is created through love and faithfulness.

Isaac loved being around family and friends. He never met a stranger, whether it be sitting on his porch waving and talking to people as they passed by, or with his Pink Panther Motorcycle friends or travelling with the Natchez Trace Social Club members. All he needed to do was flash that handsome smile and that mischievous wink, then guess what He Had You!!! You were then Family for Life.

Isaac will be fondly remembered for his beautiful, affectionate smile, faith, steadfast determination, kindness, humor, for his generosity and for the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him.

Isaac leaves to cherish his beautiful and precious memories, his loving & devoted wife, Lavonia Rivers; 4 daughters; LaTonja (Carl Sr.) Coates, Angela (Cedric Sr.) Poellnitz, Tonia Holt (Parris) Clark, and Iris Rivers; (1) son; Andreaco Glenn; (10) grandchildren; Renee Poellnitz, DaNeesha Poellnitz, Brandi Coates, Parrian (Iliana) Zalark, Cedra Poellnitz, Jaden Foster, Carl Coates, Jr., Cedric Poellnitz, II, Parrison Clark, Praston Clark; (3) great - grandchildren; Rhyan Winston, Juelz Clark, and Pharoah Barnes; devoted brother and sister-in-love; Clarence & Tina Potter; (1) sister-in-law; Annie Potter; (1) bonus sister; Gloria Jennings; (1) bonus brother; Herman Jennings; (1) god-son; DeMario Sweatt; Devoted neighbor; Cleopatra Crockrell; Special friends; Daniel Howse, Thomas Jarrett, Otis Richardson, Lawrence Edwards, Larry Carlow, Willie Mae Glenn, Annie Davis, Gretchen Green, Daniel & Patricia Bender, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Isaac will be missed and forever loved by all whose lives he touched.
