James Rogers Reynolds

James Rogers Reynolds was born to Caroline Clack and Rollie Edward Reynolds on March 9, 1937 in Pulaski, Tennessee. James’ early education was at Boardingham Elementary School in Giles county. He then attended Bridgeforth Middle School in Pulaski, Tennessee where he excelled in Piano from the age of 14. He moved to Nashville with his family in 1952 and was enrolled at the Tennessee School for the Blind where he took music, sax, and piano. He went on to pursue his love for music, the sax, and the piano at Tennessee State University from 1957 to 1959. After leaving his studies at TSU, he played with the Arthur Gunther band from 1960 to 1962 alto sax and piano. He accepted his calling to the Lord in 1961 and became minister of music at First Street Baptist Church from 1961 to 1995 and also at Mt. Zion Baptist church in Springfield, Tennessee for 27 years.
 Concurrently , James worked at Atkins Construction Company from 1961 to 1965. He was employed by Horace Small Mfg. Co. from 1966 to 2002 and Vanity Fair from 2000 to 2002 where he retired.

He has currently been playing at St. Matthews Holy Missionary Baptist Church since the 1980’s where he was the pianist until 3 weeks ago.
He married his wife Doris Elizabeth Jackson on her birthday April 16, 1965 and they have two children, James Jr. and Rollie Antonio Reynolds. James was a tremendously dedicated father to his two sons. He is predeceased by his wife D. Elizabeth Reynolds, father Rollie Edward Reynolds, his mother Caroline Reynolds, and his brother R.E. Reynolds. He is survived by his sister Annie Marie Johnson, his sons James Rogers Reynolds Il and Rollie Edward Reynolds, three grandsons, family and a host of friends.

The family wants to thank everyone for the extraordinary and overwhelming outpouring of love, encouragement, and support that has been shown during our this time of transition. May God bless you eternally one and all.
