James T. Washington

James Washington affectionately known as "Tommy" was born July 13, 1940, to the late Mr. James & Alberta Washington of Pulaski, Tennessee. He was one of four children born to this union.

He attended Cameron High School upon the family's relocation to Nashville, Tennessee. Tommy played on the basketball team and enjoyed attending all sporting events. He was a proud member of the 1959 graduating class of Cameron High School. Tommy furthered his education at Tennessee State University.

While attending Cameron he met the love of his life JoAnn Green. They were High School sweethearts for five years. This love grew into their marriage on June 2, 1962. Such a strong bond of love keep them together for a total of sixty-eight years.

Tommy was a supervisor at the Tennessean Newspaper for forty years. After retirement, he spent his time enjoying family and friends. Anyone who knew him knew he loved God and sports. You could faithfully find Tommy ushering at Temple Baptist Church on Sundays. He was cheering on his favorite teams, the Lakers, and Titans, on game day.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and faithful companion of sixty- eight years, JoAnn Green Washington; devoted son, Rickey Washington; loving daughter, Angela Washington; adoring grandchildren, Victoria Adams, and Carmen Washington, sister-in-law, Cynthia Washington; seven great- grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many, many special childhood friends.
