Mr. John Louis Grigsby, Sr. was born November 25, 1929 to the late Monroe and Carol Julia Grigsby. God’s will was done, and he received his heavenly wings on Friday, October 13, 2023. John Louis was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Lula Mae Grigsby, ex-wife-Anna C. Grigsby, siblings-James, Monroe Jr., and William Grigsby, Lula Terrell, Esther Joyce, Mamie Laster, Mattie Malone, and daughters-Marilyn and Marleen Grigsby. John Louis was born in Pulaski, Tennessee where he received up to a ninth grade education in the Giles County School System. He left school to help his mother take care of the household. He got a job as a truck driver for Cain-Sloan, where he drove their trucks for 40+ years. He enjoyed his job, and was able to retire in his early 50’s. John Louis was a talker. He loved telling stories to anyone that would listen. He also loved to dress from head to toe. He wore a hat and dress shoes with every outfit. He did not have a favorite color, but dressed in all colors. During his free time, he enjoyed fishing, listening to the Blues and Gospel music, and took up the game of Golf. He played at numerous Golf Courses as well as played in countless tournaments, winning all kinds of trophies. John Louis loved Tiger Woods! No one was allowed to speak negatively about Tiger. Also in his pastime, he enjoyed watching Westerns including Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and Wagon Train. He was also a National Football League fan. The Seattle Seahawks, with Russell Wilson as the quarterback, was his team. John Louis loved the Lord! He was raised up in Hamilton Tabernacle United Primitive Baptist Church, where he became a member in his 20’s under the leadership of the late Reverend W. E. Hamilton. He was a faithful member, even becoming a young deacon in his 30’s. After his union with Anna C. Grigsby, seven children were born, and Hamilton Tabernacle UPB became their family church. They were in church from sunup to sundown. During his 22 year marriage with Lula Mae Grigsby, they would attend Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Percy Clark, and Greater St. John Baptist Church. On occasion, he would also attend Mt. Paran Primitive Baptist Church. John Louis’s legacy and memories will live on with his daughters-Dorothy Donnell, (devoted) Donzella Geter, and (devoted) Sharon Grigsby; step daughter-in-law-Dorothy Pye; sons-John L. Grigsby, Jr. of San Diego, CA, and W. DeWayne Grigsby; son-in-law-(devoted) Elder Freeman H. Geter, III; grandchildren-LaTonya (Clifford) Lee, Ronald (Regina) Murphy, Jr., LaKisha (James) Holt, Danielle Russell, and Krystal Grigsby Glenn; great-grandchildren-Ronald III, Ra’Vonte, Ra’Shad Murphy, Chanzler Holt, Kimani Gunn, and Keagan Friend; sister-(devoted) Mary Ann Jenkins; brothers-Dr. Eugene (Betty) Grigsby of Madison, WI, Dr. Paul Grigsby, and Larry Grigsby; favorite nephew-Dr. William Terrell; favorite cousin-Muzell Hester; good friends-Ms. Shirley Johnson, and Mother Cora Ann Geter; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former employees of Cain-Sloan, and golf buddies.
