Lorraine Wright

February 13, 1934 — December 17, 2021

Mrs. Lorraine Wright was born to the late Issac and Mamie Whittemore on February 13, 1934 in Nashville, TN. Sadly and peacefully, she departed this earthly life on December 17, 2021 surrounded by family.

Lorraine professed her love for Christ and united with Mt. Gilead
Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor F.M. Corder. She later joined the Usher Board and served faithfully until debilitating health occurred.

Lorraine was educated in Metro Public Schools and graduated from Pearl High School. She later attended Tennessee State (A & I). After her attendance, she became a hair stylist in Green Hills and achieved a long career leading up to retirement. While at this profession, she had many customers and made many friends. During her retirement, she served part time at the Goodwill Center in East Nashville and was an active and involved member of her Neighborhood Watch. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed traveling, socializing with friends, and gathering for family events. Her personality and disposition was pleasant, respectful, and caring to others.

Lorraine was united in Holy Matrimony to Reverend Melvin Wright on June 7, 1969. He was the pastor of Old Hickory Community Church in Old Hickory, TN. for 27 years and she served as First Lady for numerous years.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Melvin Wright, adult children, Larry Whittemore and Sheila Wright, parents, Issac and Mamie Whittemore, and siblings Lucille Bashaw and John D. and Ernestine Whittemore.

She leaves to cherish her memories lovingly and devoted family; sons Michael Whittemore, Ricky (Patricia) Wright, Michael (Judith) Wright, Theo Wright, daughter Cynthia Wright, grandchildren Monique Olden-Johnson and Tony Chrismon, great grandchildren Makenze and Strohm Jr., brother-in-law Bryant Bashaw, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends, and special thanks to home health care provider, Mrs. Chrisie. Visitation Thursday, December 30, 2021, 11-12 with funeral to follow at Mt. Gilead MB. Church 901 Acklen Ave. Interment Greenwood Cemetery North.
