Mattie Casina Bowers

October 16, 1960 — May 5, 2025

Mattie C. Bell-Bowers (“Casina”) was born to the late Bessie Rene Bell and the late Richard Lee Bell on October 16, 1960 in Dickson, TN. She suddenly departed this life on May 5, 2025, at Ascension St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mattie understood the need for spiritual guidance and accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Fourteenth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend Felton Price. As an adult, she joined The Temple Church under Pastor Darrell A. Drumwright where she became a faithful member and was active in the Deaconess ministries until her transition.

Mattie attended the Nashville public school system and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1978. “She was a star athlete for Hillsboro Girls basketball team and was known for her hook shot. She was never shy to show others how it was done.”She attended Tennessee State University (TSU) before starting her career at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She worked in the adult and pediatric Operating Rooms for over 30 years. She developed many friends during her years at Vanderbilt Medical Center and Monroe Carell Junior Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Her kind, caring and genuine presence will be missed by all her peers and colleagues.

Mattie met the love of her life, Ronald Edward Bowers in high school. They both attended Hillsboro and were great basketball players. They wed May 24, 1985 and had two children in this union, Ronald Edward Bowers Jr. and Falonda Michelle Glenn. Mattie adored her beautiful children and helped inspire them to be successful adults and loving parents to her grandchildren.

Mattie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to so many people. She enjoyed spending time with her family on holidays and family gathering. She was active with her grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities and loved going to “the mall”. She always greeted everyone with a smile and loved to give firm hugs to all she knew. Her genuine concerns for everyone’s well-being was unmatched. She was always willing to help others in need and often ended her conversations, with “all is well”.
