Melba Christine Tarkington-Hamler

Melba Christine Tarkington Hamler, age 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Whites
Creek Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Nashville, TN.

Melba was born on Tyler Ridge, Primm Springs, TN, to the late Ellis Tarkington and Emma Cheatham
Tarkington. She received her formal education in the Hickman County School System.

Melba was baptized at an early age at the Fort Cooper Church of Christ in Primm Springs, TN. She was a
faithful member of the West End Church of Christ in Chapel Hill, TN. For many years Melba was an active
member of the community where she lived. Melba worked for the United States Postal Service (USPS)
until she retired at the age of 72.

Melba deeply loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening.
She also loved her dog, Ramie.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hamler

Melba was also preceded in death by her eleven siblings, William Van Tarkington, Ernest Mae Hambright,
Essie T Battle, Bernice Carpenter, Lizzie T O'Bryant, Mary Ruth Grimes, Nora Grimes, Ellis Elmira
Tarkington, Mattie Lou Tarkington, Howard Cheathem Tarkington, and Sam Tarkington.

She leaves to mourn her devoted niece, Carol Grimes Demonbreun, nephew, Carl (Tracy) Grimes, and a
devoted granddaughter, Tomicka Hamler Delgado, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren,
and friends.

Melba's family would like to thank the staff at Whites Creek Wellness and Rehabilitation Center and
Gentiva Hospice as well as Melba's devoted roommate, Twyla Thompson.
