On Sunday, August 27, 2023, Nina June Frazier, loving mother and grandmother, made her peaceful transition at the age of 85. Her life, which began on June 14, 1938, in Shepherd, Tennessee, is marked by her devotion to God, family, and community. With a passion for reading and history, June worked at the American Baptist College as a Library Aide until retirement. She also spent several years as a nurse’s aide at Parkview Hospital and Belmont Retirement Home.
She enjoyed simple pleasures such as reading, gardening, exploring thrift shops, watching movies, and spending quality time with her close friends. She was an active member of the Women of Faith Chapter of The Red Hat Society. But her greatest joy came from attending services and fellowshipping at Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Nina June found her church home at Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church in 1977 after being invited to attend services by Cora (Shelton) Alston and has been an active member ever since. She was a beloved member of the church family, having been a member of the Women’s Bible Study, Sunday School, Tuesday Night Bible Study, The Senior Ministry, The Room in the Inn, and Senior Choir. Her joy-filled belief in God was a hallmark of her life.
Nina June is remembered for her fierce determination, humor, and one-of-a-kind personality. She was preceded in death by grandparents Dinky Guy and Nina F. Frazier; mother Lillie B. Cox; brothers Robert Ferrell Frazier and Michael Parker Cox; and beloved aunt Berthene Dunnigan. She is survived by children Lorri Frazier, Naomi Brown, and Erick Brown, and siblings Constance Deramus (Cox), Henry Cox, Richard (Loraine) Cox, and Sister-in-law Robin Cox, and a host of other family and friends. She was the proud grandmother of Candice Frazier, Cordnie Brown, Kelli James, Yazmen (Dominque) Payne, and Machi Lockhart, and the loving great-grandmother of Billy Mills IV, Khamani Arnold, and Annalisa Santiago.
