Norma Sherrell Turner

July 13, 1943 — April 1, 2026

Norma Jean Sherrell Turner was born on July 13, 1943, in Prospect, Tennessee to the parents of Robert and Marvelene Sherrell who preceded her in death and her siblings: She departed this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday April 1, 2026 at Cane Ridge Rehabilitation Center.

Norma spent much of her youth in the Prospect, Tennessee area, where she graduated from Bridgeforth High School in 1961. She went on to attend Tennessee State University, graduating in 1968. She later moved to Nashville in her adult years where she resided and met the love of her life, her husband Mr. Cecil Turner whom she married on January 20, 1988.

Norma accepted Christ at an early age and joined Trotters Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Prospect, Tennessee where she attended and served faithfully along with her husband. She was always ready to help with any of the church programs, not only at Trotter’s Chapel, but also a supporter of St. Paul AME in Aspen Hill. She enjoyed ordering the Sunday School books for both churches. She enjoyed attending Sunday School, Sunday morning church service, and helping with special events at the church such as Homecoming and Family & Friends Day.  She was someone that loved to help others, and someone that you could count on.

Norma improved the lives of many through her years of service with Metro Government Public Housing in Nashville, where she worked until her retirement. She loved sports, especially tennis—which she enjoyed both on the court and on television, and she proudly displayed the many trophies she earned. Other hobbies she enjoyed included long walks in the park, fishing, and bowling with her husband.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, DeBerry Sherrell, John Lewis Sherrell, Roberta “Jewel” Jones (Richard), Alvin Sherrell, Dewey Sherrell, and Maurice Sherrell; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Foster, Velma Turner; and brother-in-law, Vincent Turner.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Cecil Turner of Nashville, TN; daughters, Felicia Turner Wilson, Loretta F. Turner; brothers Wendell Sherrell (Myrtle) of Nashville, TN and Rev. Paul Sherrell of Prospect, TN and her sister Joyce Collier (Dwight) of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Lorenzo Brown, Mykal Brown, Jessica Wilson, Courtney Jackson; niece, Kimberly Collier of Huntsville, AL who she always referred to as “my girl” that was like a daughter to her; brothers-in-laws, William Earl Turner, Benjamin Turner, Anthony (Audrey) Washington, Jr., Joseph and Gary Mitchell; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
