Peggy Louise Mooreland

July 2, 1940 — December 22, 2023

Early Friday morning, December 22, 2023, before the break of dawn, our Heavenly Father called our
precious mother, Peggy Louise Bowers Mooreland of Joelton, TN, home. Peggy was born on July 2, 1940, in
Nashville, TN to Grant McNeil Bowers, Sr. and Mable Anderson Bowers. She was the eldest of nine siblings.

Peggy was born in the country but grew up with her elders and aunts in Nashville, TN. She was educated in
the Davidson County Public Schools where she attended Carter-Lawrence and Cameron Schools. She was a
graduate of Pearl High School, Class of 1956. She attended Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial College (A&I
State College) where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education, Class of 1960. Peggy
also furthered her studies at Trevecca Nazarene College.

Peggy was married to the late Velsper "Pete" Mooreland of Pleasant View, Tennessee. They were blessed
with three children: Hamlin Gates Mooreland, Hudson Lee Mooreland, and Pamela Rose Mooreland. Peggy
was a loving, caring daughter, sister, niece, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Throughout her early years as a mother, she emphasized the significance of an education, the value of loyal
dedication, and the ethics of strong hard work. She and her family attended Saint Pius X Catholic Church in
Nashville for many years. In the latter years of her life, she attended Second Baptist Church in Ashland City,
Tennessee, and united with Payne Chapel United Methodist Church in Joelton, Tennessee, faithfully serving on
the Usher Board until the church's closure.

Growing up in South Nashville, Peggy was accustomed to hearing many old proverbs, adages, and clichés.
Perhaps that is the reason why she sometimes had a stern look or determined demeanor on her face. Mrs.
Mooreland would often utilize etiquette at times correcting with humor to make us laugh; with elegance to
make us concerned and with gestures to make us aware of how serious we should be. These gestures were
always done with love, grace, and mercy.

As a devoted educator, Peggy enriched the lives of hundreds of thousands of children, influencing the youth
with her methods, and teaching them academics as well as prudence in the Robertson County School System.
Her first assignment was at Bransford Elementary School in Springfield, Tennessee, for three years. She then
bestowed thirty-eight years of loyal service to Coopertown Elementary School in Coopertown, Tennessee.

She retired in 2003 after forty-one years of service. Her hobbies were extensive reading, working crossword
puzzles, decorating interior design, shopping with her sisters and eating out with her girlfriends. As her health
declined, Peggy was surrounded by the love of her steadfast son Hamlin (Charlene) Mooreland, who was her
caretaker, her six siblings (including their spouses), her grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was a
jewel that our family found!

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Grant Bowers Sr, Mable A. Bowers, her son, Hudson
Mooreland, granddaughter Ashley Anderson, and sister and brother-in-law, Gwendolyn and Joe Tyler.

She is survived by her son, Hamlin (Charlene) Mooreland; daughter Pamela Anderson all of Nashville, TN;
siblings Dorothy (Robert) Benton, Grant (Benetta) Bowers, Jr. all of Nashville, TN, Louis B. Stevens of
Washington, D.C., Florence Rice, Charlie (Faye) Bowers all of Nashville, TN, Carolyn (Joseph) Majors, Sr. of
Ashland City, TN, and Linda (Joseph) Towner, Sr. of Antioch, TN; grandchildren: Andre Jaison Mooreland of
New York City, NY, William (Kara) Anderson, Jr. of San Antonio, TX, Julian Leggs, Anthony Mooreland all
of Nashville, TN; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; many relatives and dear friends.
