Sylvester Clarence Cook, Jr.

November 3, 1935 — June 11, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvester Clarence Cook Jr. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on June 11th, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 89.

Sylvester was a man of exceptional character, embodying kindness, loyalty, big-heartedness, generosity, resilience, and strength throughout his life. He was born in Welcome, Louisiana on November 03, 1935, to Sylvester C. Cook Sr. and Emily T. Cook, both preceding him in death. He accepted Christ at a young age while living in Louisiana. His early education was completed at C. M. Washington High School, where the foundation of his strong, faith-filled life was laid. At the young age of 17, he decided to enlist in the U.S. Air Force on November 26, 1952, where he proudly served his country for 26 years followed by an illustrious over 20-year career at Aerojet. Later in life, he furthered his education at Sacramento State University.

A remarkable man who touched the lives of many, he leaves behind a legacy of passion, dedication, and professionalism. Sylvester was an extraordinary individual who led his family and community with unwavering commitment. His journey was marked by a deep sense of duty, evident in his many years of service in the U.S. Military.

During his lifelong servitude, he gave back to the community through several organizations like The American Legion and Masonic Temple of Thibodaux. In his early years he loved playing baseball with his father, and in his later years, he took an interest in golfing with friends. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, but he was a true fan of the San Francisco Giants. Above all, Sylvester cherished spending time with his family, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories.

He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Sylvia Cook, Terris (Kenneth) Douglas, Yolanda (Rodell) Widemon; sons, Sylvester (Cheryl) Cook III and Gary Cook. Daughter-in-law Carla Cook. One sister Enola Cook-Woods and one brother Harold Cook.
