Veatrice Shantel Ward

Veatrice “Shay” Shantel Ward, the youngest child of Charles Ward and Sadie Jones, was born March 28, 1971, in Nashville, Tennessee. She departed this life suddenly, but peacefully on August 5, 2025, at her residence.

Veatrice accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Percy J. Clark. She attended worship services at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church prior to her passing.

Veatrice was educated in the Nashville Davidson County Public School System, graduating from Stratford High School in 1988. She was a member of Delta Phi Omega Sorority and was a strong supporter of the Dirty Dozen and the Bottom Family Reunion. She was employed by WeGo Public Transit for over the past 8 years. Veatrice was one-of-a-kind. She was full of energy and was the life of the party. She enjoyed dancing, skating, listening to music and playing cards with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by his father, Charles Ward; brother, Willie Ward; grandparents, John Thomas and Lorene Jones and Clondike and Louise Ward.

Veatrice leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Quortess Hammonds and Kendrick Ward; mother, Sadie Jones, sisters, Regina Ward, Tina Ward; devoted sister, Tierra Mason; grandchildren, Alieysha Ward, DeeDee Ward and Damiyah Ward. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; devoted nephew, Tevin Ward; devoted cousin, Vickie Mason; devoted friends, Laticia Brown, Ramona Shelton, Dionne (Dee) McClain-Smith and Ivy Starks, Oscar Adkerson.
