Walter Jr. Cowan was born to the parents of Mary Frances (Little Mother) Cowan and Mays Brown on July 31, 1032. In Como, Tennessee.
Graduated from Henry County Training School and Central High School. After graduation he joined the United States Army in July 1951. He served in the Korea War.
Upon returning from the United States Army- Walter Jr. married the Love of his life- Julia Frances Dunlap on April 18, 1954 for 47 years until her death on December 26, 2001.
To this union two children were born, Cindy & Margie.
He worked for TVA Paris, TN and Golden Pond KY for 40 years. He also worked for Commercial Bank for 15 years.
Later he enjoyed his retirement, babysitting his Grand Kids.
United with Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age. Later became one of the Founding Members of the Progressive Baptist Church. Where his name is placed on the cornerstone of Progressive. At Progressive he served as Chairman of Deacon Board for 38 years and Church Trustee for 53 years. He was a member of the Angelic Choir, Male Chorus, Sunday School and served in many capacities in the Church. He was a member of O.E.S. & The Masonic Lodge, October 13, 1959 for 64 years.
Leave to his memory, Daughter Margie (Vincent) Nolen, Christy (Tony) Raye, and Grandchildren: Amber Nolen, Kourtnei (Heart), Jade & Lin-Cee (His Snugg) Byars, Cody (Big Girl) Michael & Jimmie Bobo, Christopher Stricker. A special niece Emily Arnold, Great niece Yvette Littleton, Nephew David Jones, Son-In-Law Pierre Bobo, King Dunlap’s Family. He had 13 Great Grand Children, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends all over the world
Preceded him in death- Mother Frances & Father Mays, Wife Julia, Daughter Cindy, Brother Thomas Brown, Sisters- Lillie Jones, Marjorie Lewis. Sister-in-law Dorothy Williams, Grandsons, Troy Nolen & Terry Vinson, Brother-in-law Charles Lewis & King Dunlap III.
The senior years of his life there was a special friend of his life, Bobbie J. Haynes who preceded him in death. Walter Jr. was better known as– Daddy, Granddaddy and Uncle Walter
