Ms. Yama Velez Ali was born April 22, 1954, in Bronx, Ny. She departed this peaceful life on Monday, April 28, 2025, at her residence in Nashville, Tennessee.
Yama accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She was currently united with the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she showed her belief by helping and giving to others. We all could learn from her.
Her childhood schoolmates remember their days with Yama as students at the Manhattan Elementary School and fun-filled summers at Victory Lake Youth Camp in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Yama attended Oakwood University from 1972 to 1974 and Tennessee State University from 1974 to 1975, and received a BS degree in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University in 1977.
Yama enjoyed being self-employed. She had several businesses to include Insurance and running a finance company. Yama had many talents; she authored a book titled “Daddy’s Little Girl”.
In her spare time, she enjoyed taking walks, reading, swimming, working, writing and dining out.
Yama was preceded in death by her mother, Marion King Velez.
She is survived by close cherished friend and loved one, Connie Spence, Steve Norman, friend and confidant, Tonya Hayes, friends and business associates, other friends and associates and many classmates.
